In this talk I will attempt to dissolve the myth of metaphor as an inherent property of human cognition which became very popular in certain circles of theorists in the mid-seventies, and still attracts the attention of many. I will try to show that, while the evidence for the view may seemingly be overwhelming, it does not always withstand speculative scrutinization.
