Call for papers - LEL Postgraduate Conference, 19th - 21st May
Presenters Eligible for £50 Awards!
The LEL Postgraduate Conference is an annual event where postgraduates present ongoing work and discuss their research with peers and LEL faculty. It offers a great opportunity to refine thoughts, share concerns, and receive constructive criticism in a supportive and convivial environment. Additionally, it's great way to gain experience in conference presentation and find out about some of the exciting things going on in LEL!
This year's conference will take place from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 May 2010. Participants and presenters are invited to attend a buffet lunch on Thursday 20 May and a drinks reception on Friday May 21. Tea and coffee will be provided on all three days. New to this year's conference, two awards of £50 each will be available for Best Presentation and for Most Original Research.
Any papers relevant to linguistics and English language are welcome, although priority will be given to LEL students. Highest priority is given to second- and third-year PhD students, who are expected to present as part of their PhD requirements. For first-year PhD students and MSc students, participation is optional but keenly encouraged.
Please submit abstracts of 200 words to lelpgc@googlemail.com no later than April 19, 2010. If you would like to be considered for an extended session (see below), you may present an abstract of up to 1 full page single spaced.
In order to give all LEL postgrad students the opportunity to present, the standard length of a talk will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes' question time. A limited number of extended sessions are also available, with 35 minutes for the presentation and 10-15 minutes for questions. This decision will be based on your submitted abstract, and is at the discretion of the organising committee.
The 2009 Organising Committee consists of postgraduate students in
LEL: Justin Sulik,
Sean Roberts,
Keelin Murray,
and Chrissy
Cuskley.
