The Linguistics & English Language (formerly TAAL) Postgraduate Conference will take place on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 April 2006.

The Postgraduate Conference (or PGC) is an annual event with the purposes
- of providing postgraduate students (Ph.D. students in particular) a forum in which they can present their latest work and gain experience in conference presentation;
- of giving students and staff members an opportunity to learn what other Ph.D. students are working on; and
- of bringing a sense of closure to the end of the academic year – a check point people can refer back to in order to assess the progress they have made.
It is required for postgraduate students in their second year or later to give a talk. This is optional for first-year Ph.D. students and M.Sc. students. We will give priority to students of the University of Edinburgh, but postgraduate students at other Scottish universities and even abroad are invited to send in abstracts.
The Organizing Committee consists of postgraduate students in LEL. They are, in alphabetical order, Ashraf Abdelhay, Lynn Clark, Remco Knooihuizen, Kaori A. Miura, Amanda Patten and Thom Scott-Phillips.
